How to Fix iPhone Won’t Turn on (2019 Updated)

I press the Power button on my iPhone and nothing happens. My iPhone won’t turn on at all! I wonder why is my phone not turning on. Is there something wrong with the software or hardware, should I need to take it to an Apple store for diagnosis? What can I do to fix this? Thanks!

This has probably happened to everyone at some time. It is not rare occasion that when you press the Power button intending to activate your iPhone but it just appears black and nothing happens.

Actually, an iPhone may fail to turn on if its battery is completely dead.

If the phone is in low battery, you will see some sort of “low battery” indicator when you try to turn it on. But if it completely runs out of battery power, the iPhone screen won’t turn on and you will just see the iPhone black screen. So when you encounter iPhone not powering on, you can have it charged for about 15 minutes or so in the first place.

If it is still not responsive after charged, then you should consider either is a software problem or a hardware issue that preventing your iPhone from turning on.

1. Charge iPhone

If iPhone is not responding, it might run out of battery. You can try to charge it for a while to check if you can turn it on.

2. Force your iPhone to Restart

If your iPhone is charging but not turning on, it may be the software crashed that causes the problem. In this case, perform a hard reset can immediately bring the device back to life. To hard reset an iPhone: Press and hold the Power button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

3. Restore your iPhone in Recovery Mode

Sometimes it is the best solution to factory reset your device, since this will erase all the data and settings on the device and can solve a lot of problems. However, I hope you have synced your iPhone recently and backed up your data, otherwise, you will lose all your data and settings.

Put iPhone into Recovery mode.

iPhone 6s or earlier:

1. Power off iPhone and then holding the Home button.

2. Run iTunes on computer and then connect iPhone to computer.

3. Release the button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.

iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus:

1. Turn off your iPhone 7 and then press and hold down Volume down button.

2. Launch iTunes on computer, and then connect iPhone to this computer.

3. Release the button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.

iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X:

As iPhone 8 and later versions doesn't have a physical Home button, you should do as below.

1. Turn off your iPhone. And then plug your iPhone to computer with USB cable and then run the latest iTunes on your computer.

2. Press and release the Volume Up button and then Volume Down button.

3. Then press and hold the Power button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.

Plug your device into your computer and launch iTunes.

iTunes will recognize your device is in trouble and require it to be updated or restored. Choose Update to reinstall iOS without erasing your data. If the download takes too much time, repeat the steps but choose Restore option instead.
