How to Bypass Samsung Lock Screen: Pattern, PIN, Password

It happens to the best of us: a new pattern or PIN set, then forgotten — or changed as a prank. Being locked out of your own phone is frustrating, especially with important files on it. A forgotten Samsung pattern is one of the most common lockout causes I see.

There are several legitimate ways back in, from remote unlock to a factory reset as a last resort. Which works depends on Find My Mobile, your Google account, and how much data you'll risk. This guide walks through each in order of preference.

Important: this guide is for your own Samsung phone. Bypassing a phone that isn't yours may be illegal and violates privacy. Ensure you have the right to access the device.

Part 1: Locked Out of Your Samsung? Do This First

Before anything complicated, run this quick checklist — sometimes the solution is simpler than you think.

1. Wait for the timeout. If you've entered the wrong pattern or PIN too many times, your phone may be temporarily locked. Wait 30 seconds to a minute and try again. Some Samsung phones also show a "Forgot pattern" or "Forgot PIN" option after multiple failed attempts — if you see this, tap it and follow the prompts to sign in with your Google account.
2. Check if Smart Lock is active. If you previously set up Smart Lock (which keeps your phone unlocked in trusted locations or when connected to trusted devices), your phone may already be unlocked when you're at home or connected to your smartwatch. Try taking it to a location you've marked as trusted, or connect it to a trusted Bluetooth device.
3. Try your backup PIN or alternate method. When you set up a fingerprint or face unlock, Samsung usually requires you to set a backup PIN, pattern, or password as well. If your fingerprint isn't working (wet fingers, dirty sensor, etc.), try the backup method you set up at the same time.
4. Check for a Samsung account. If you signed into a Samsung account on the phone (which most people do during setup), you can use Find My Mobile to unlock it remotely — see Part 2. This is the best option because it doesn't erase your data.
5. Check for a Google account. If the phone is linked to your Google account and has an internet connection, you may be able to use Google's Find My Device to reset the lock screen — see Part 3.

Step 5Go to Settings > Lock screen and security > Screen lock type and set a new PIN or pattern you'll remember.

Find My Mobile preserves all your data and takes under a minute, but requires the phone online with Remote unlock enabled. Without those, try the options below.

Part 3: Google Account and Smart Lock Options

If Find My Mobile isn't available, your next best bet is your Google account — there are a couple of ways it can work depending on your Android version.

Method A: Google Find My Device can lock, ring, or erase a phone, but no longer changes the lock PIN on modern Android. On Android 7.0 or earlier you may still set a temporary password to bypass the lock:

Step 1On a computer, go to android.com/find and sign in with the Google account linked to your phone.

Step 2Select your locked phone from the list. If online, you'll see its location on a map.

Step 3Click Secure Device (or Lock). If you can set a new password, enter one — it overrides the lock screen. If that option is missing, try another method.

Method B: on older Samsung phones (Android 4.4 and earlier), entering the wrong pattern or PIN five times shows a 'Forgot pattern?' button. Tap it, sign in with Google, and set a new lock. Removed in Android 5.0.

Method C: Smart Lock may already unlock your phone when it's near a trusted Bluetooth device, in a trusted location, or with on-body detection. Note it requires the phone to have been unlocked once since the last restart.

If none of the Google methods work, your options are a factory reset (Part 4) or FoneLab uDroidWiz (Part 5), which keeps your files. Back up what you can from the SD card if possible.

Part 4: Factory Reset via Recovery Mode (Last Resort)

If all else fails, a factory reset via Recovery Mode erases everything and restores the phone to factory state. You'll need your Google account afterward (FRP). Only use it as a last resort.

Step 1Power off the phone, then press and hold Power + Volume Down for 7-10 seconds if the screen is unresponsive.

Step 2Boot into Recovery Mode: hold Volume Up + Home + Power (older models) or Volume Up + Bixby + Power (Galaxy S8 and later). Release when you see the Samsung logo.

Step 3In Recovery Mode, use the Volume buttons to move and the Power button to select. Scroll to Wipe data/factory reset and press Power.

Step 4Confirm with Factory data reset. The reset takes 1-5 minutes.

Step 5Select Reboot system now. On setup, enter the Google account linked to the phone (FRP), then set a new lock screen and restore from backup.
